Wisdom About Working Together
Here is some more from the fantastic experience of co-presenting with a leadership expert recently. We used a TV talk show format which resulted in an excellent roundtable discussion. Particularly relevant to project managers was the discussion about five keys to working with people:
1. Vision- enable people to see themselves in the situation you are developing
2. Learn skills- show the team you are willing to learn new skills and understand their jobs
3. Incentives- remember that one key incentive is the promise of things working better so that jobs are more rewarding
4. Resources- pay attention to the small things, e.g., make a printer or copier more available by relocating it
5. Action plan- this is key to getting people to focus, especially the dreaded “idea man”
