Obama, History, Pain, Acknowledgement and Unity
Barack Obama’s speech challenged all of us to deal with the history of racism. So how do we do that? It is much like we deal with any truth that is painful: talk it out. The feelings that Jeremiah Wright expresses obviously strike a chord with many- who have you spoken with TODAY about why such expressions continue? Do you WANT to hear it? A more perfect union can only be worked out by us- “we the people”.
As for whether Jeremiah Wright’s ramblings should somehow rub off on Obama– I don’t care. What is relevant and important is that we all read this speech very carefully- it contains the prescription for unity among all races and cultures.
What have you done TODAY to elicit conversations about race? Why is this important?
